What is Backdrop Build?

Backdrop Build is a four-week, online-only program run by Backdrop Labs, Ltd where builders collaborate to develop frontier technology projects in areas like artificial intelligence, crypto, open source, and gaming. Participants apply through the website, ship weekly updates, and launch a usable product by the end of the cohort. The program is completely free for participants and partners may award grants to standout projects.

How to use Backdrop Build?

Create a Build account at backdropbuild.com/apply and submit your application before the cohort deadline. If accepted, complete Backdrop's onboarding documentation by the program start date, then build your project over four weeks with weekly progress updates and a public launch on a live URL with a short demo video.

Do you take any equity or intellectual property rights?

Nope. You keep all equity and intellectual property, as you should!

Does my project need to be open source?

No. We're big believers in open source and we do encourage people to open up their repos during the program just because it makes collaboration and feedback even better. But if you don't want to open up your project, that's totally fine, too.

Can I apply to Build as a team?

Yes. We love a good team, and we'd love for you to bring your crew to build together. Only one application is needed per team — after you get in you will be able to add your team members without an application process for them.
