What is Frigate NVR?

Frigate is an open source NVR built around real-time AI object detection. All processing runs locally on your own hardware, and camera feeds never leave your home. It uses OpenCV and TensorFlow for realtime detection on IP cameras, with optional AI accelerators for higher performance.

How to use Frigate NVR?

Install Frigate as a Docker container on a Debian-based host, map config and storage volumes, then edit config.yml with your camera RTSP streams. Connect an MQTT broker for Home Assistant integration. See docs.frigate.video for hardware setup, Coral/GPU accelerators, and Docker Compose examples.

I don't want another subscription. What happens if I cancel?

Models trained during your subscription are available for download indefinitely even if you decide not to renew. You can cancel and it won't renew at the end of the year.

Do I have to upload images from my own cameras?

You don't have to. Subscribers have direct access to the base models trained on images from other Frigate+ users.

Is Frigate+ required for face or license plate recognition?

No. Facial and license plate recognition is built into Frigate starting with 0.16. It works with or without a Frigate+ subscription; Frigate+ models improve efficiency.
